I am trying to decide what to use to make my wedding bouquet and I'd like to do them myself because it's so much cheaper and I can do whatever I want to do to them. I'm thinking about using ivory flowers of some sort (probably carnations or hydrangeas) to make a large poufy bouquet and then use ribbon in burgundy or chocolate so I can coordinate my wedding colors. Does that sound like it would be good? Can you find a picture of a bouquet like that for me?
Thanks!
Ivory flowers with burgundy or chocolate ribbon?
I think it sounds okay, just be sure to take care of the flowers to get their full potential.
Carnations and Hydangeas are drastically different flowers, and need different care so that they are at their best for your wedding day.
Carnations are very long lasting, but they take a long time to fully open. Their stems are fragile, and care needs to be taken when wrapping them so that they don't break at one of the joints. When you are putting them in water, make sure to cut them at an angle and put them in *immediately*. Make sure the water is cool, not hot or warm. Flower food is optional with carnations, as they take awhile to bloom anyways. Do not store them with fruit (like in the fridge) - the gasses will kill your flowers.
Hydrangeas are very woody stemmed, and have *extremely* fragile flowers. The flowers will bruise very easily, and you need to take care that you don't buy any with mold or slime on them - gently take a peek under the bundles of flowers to make sure. Hydrangeas drink very well through their petals, so to hydrate them and make sure they are bouncy and full, submerge the head in lukewarm water for about 5 minutes. Gently shake off the excess water and cut the stem at an angle, putting it directly in water. Keep them in a cool room until you are ready to use them, but not cold - Ideally, work with them in a cool room. Flower food should probably not be used until the day of the event, or the night before (if at all).
Good luck, I hope your wedding flowers turn out great!

I did all my own flowers. Check out Costco- they have gorgeous flowers! I used blue hydrangeas and off-white roses. They also have white hydrangeas and other rose colors. If I recall correctly, they also have carnations in bulk. I went to Costco and bought a regular bouquet of the roses and hydrangeas a few months before I ordered them in bulk and did a 'practice run'.
I bought my ribbon at Michael's- mine was a variegated blue and I used a plain sky blue for the BMs. I hot glued flat-back pearls on the bouquet ribbon for extra detail (bought off eBay). So maybe do your bouquet with burgundy ribbon and theirs in chocolate (or vice-versa)?
Here's a pic from our album of how the bouquets came out:

This was one of the BM's bouquets- you can see the ribbon/pearls.

Reply:Either would be beautiful, better yet, use them both! I used 2 colors of purple for mine. Or you can use ivory and burgundy flowers with the brown ribbon! I love the sound of those colors together!
Reply:I like your idea of chocolate ribbon. I dont know about advice though because this will be my first time. My colors are Chocolate, Money Green, %26amp; Cream.
Reply:It sounds lovely.
Carnations, baby's breath, a few roses, and a tiger lily. Ah......... perfecto!
